Today I had an enjoyable conversation with Susan Reber on Deutsche (sometimes in Deutsche) and languages. Her German is really good, so I plan on trying to converse with her more often. She also shares a background in learning French, and at one point, I was talking about the Vietnamese language. Somehow, I involuntarily began thinking in 3.5 different languages--French, Vietnamese, English, and some German--which has never happened before! It was excitingly confusing. It feels like I'm picking up the language more slowly, but I think I'm actually learning a lot as far as the grammar goes. Now I just have to learn to activate that knowledge in conversation more.

Earlier today, I bought a dönen for lunch and had a conversation with a Syrian shop owner. It feels silly sometimes, but I enjoyed the opportunity to put the language into practice. There is a man at the theater whose room I often use to practice. His name is Ido, and as I was leaving for him to use the room, he was telling me that in 2 months I could really pick up a lot of German, so I should try hard to speak it as much as I can. I find that I'm naturally inclined to study and to decipher the language, but it takes a little more effort for me to use the language successfully in conversation without having mental shut downs. I often run into many seemingly stressful situations where people speak fast and need a fast response from me such as in the checkout line.

I will learn the language yet.

Ich habe nicht mehr zu sagen.

P.S. I'm not sure if either of my German thoughts were correctly expressed in this post.
