Day 14 - I miss church

Sammtag

9:15 - 1:30 - Practice with multiple breaks inbetween
1:45 - On the way to get a dönen for lunch, my bike is falling apart
2:50 - Back to hotel to practice
3:00 - 5:45 - Some practicing, rehearsing, and chatting about plans for tomorrow
5:45 - Miscellaneous scraps for Dinner
6:30 - ice cream
6:50 - 8:00 - Practicing
9:30-10:00 - Practice

Clearly, today was more of a practice day, although I've been relieved of some of my accompanying duties for Monday's concert. I think I'm going to request to keep my load fairly light so that I can focus on learning and practicing my gigantic wish list of Mörike lieder.

One of the hard things about being here is the distance from the church body I attend back in Hburg. In need of some some spiritual renewal, I listened to one of the online sermons I missed a few weeks ago on Cov's website. Every time I listen to a sermon from there I feel so blessed. The message always speaks to exactly to what I need to hear. I came across a really inspiring line in the sermon outline:

Frederick Buechner: “The place God calls you to is where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”

It's often easy for me to make idols of my musical pursuits, but it really helps for me to hear frequent teachings about callings. It always restores my perspective on how God wires me. In other words, I am not just a case of failures but a specially made package intended for something truly different and purposeful.
