The past few days have been quite eventful. On Thursday, we traveled to Doebeln to put on a concert--that is, everyone except me. I was the only one who had the privilege of sitting in the audience free of performance worries. It was a very strong concert, the first half of which featured some of our singers as soloists with the theater orchestra, and the second half was another performance of Suor Angelica. I really enjoyed being in the audience for that concert. Performers and audience both seemed to have a great positive experience. I think that was a very positive highlight for many on this trip. The concert really brought out the strengths of our performers, which was nice, and, even better, I thought the camaraderie amongst performers was very evident. It was a very wonderful evening.

Yesterday afternoon, we traveled to Kriebstein for another repeat concert. The stage here was actually on a lake! It was a beautiful setting. Unfortunately, it began to rain right as the concert was starting, so they had to cancel it after preparing and planning the staging 4 hours in advance. I enjoyed the outing very much, nonetheless. There was a restaurant at the top (the place from which I took a couple of the pictures below), and I had a chance to chat with some parents and some others.

Today, after my coaching, I walked through town a little bit to see more Bergstadtfest activities. It's really neat to see so much activity in a small town. There is also much to taste. Last night I split with Sarah a really delicious waffle sandwich with hazelnut spread in between, and this morning I bought a crepe with banana and nutella. I plan on making my last rounds tomorrow. For the afternoon and evening, some of us travelled to Katherine and Hartmut's place for a BBQ, which was very fun. After dinner, we had improv games and had some really hilarious moments. We also gave Kersten, the Beggar's opera stage director, a thank you gift from the Beggar's cast. I chatted with her a little towards the end before we left. She along with Hartmut, Katherine, and Heike are all people I will miss the most. I don't know if I will ever get to see them again, but they are all wonderful and I'm glad to have gotten to know them a little.

In the midst of all these busy afternoons and evenings, I have been finding it to be quite a struggle to accomplish all the practicing I need to do. I have one week before the Lied concerts. Neither time nor energy have been on my side this past week. Also, I find it difficult to really gear myself up for this as we're heading into our last week. On the one hand, I want to do a good job with the music, but on the other, I'm only in Germany for one week more, so I want to enjoy it while I can. I will somehow find that balance this week of focusing on my music while soaking up my surroundings.
