Day 28 - Premieres of Beggar's Opera and Suor Angelica!

My pianist "costume" for Beggar's opera. Add a white tux shirt, a bow tie, and a fedora--I'll try to obtain a picture of that from someone else. I got the flower at the end after bows.

What a day! We survived 3 opera performances today. I only performed in one, but some of our students were in all 3.

The first part of the day was spent in Kloster Buch where the students performed Suor Angelica
in a local church. It was a very small church with limited seating, but the audience was very appreciative and receptive. For those who don't know, Suor Angelica is VERY sad. I often looked around to see how the German audience would respond to the Italian opera. Sure enough, by the end of it, people were bawling their eyes out. I was also getting misty eyed, which was probably also triggered by seeing other people cry. I find it's almost impossible to not cry if you know what is going on in that opera.

Kloster Buch was fun to explore. There was a farmer's market around the church, so I got to have a taste of some of the food there, including a noodle and meat dish, a pretzel, and a chocolate covered macaroon.

The Beggar's Opera premiere in the Freiberg theater turned out great. I had a lot of fun and had few things to dislike about how I played. The cast did a particularly wonderful job, having made leaps and bounds to get to this point. The audience seemed to enjoy it very much, too. Immediately after the performance, our students performed Suor Angelica with a switch in the lead, which was quite a contrast to the comedic nature of the Beggar's Opera.

It was a long musically enjoyable day. Now I'm ready for a day of rest--and also ready to start getting focused on Wolf!
